Do you know what kind of small business startup entrepreneur you are?
We all know that every person is different in their own unique way. Some are careless, some are emotional, some are go getters..etc But when it comes to being your own boss, or in other words an entrepreneur – which character are you?
The way we see it, there are 3 specific characters that pretty much match every single entrepreneur.
1st Character: The First Time Business Owner (Most People)
Most people when starting a small business in Canada fit into this category because they are excited, and ready to launch. Most people at the same don’t see the full picture of the requirements of their small business. This is why many small businesses end up failing within the first year of business.
Most startups forget the key steps to starting a business such as having a business plan, having enough funding (not only to startup, but to operate), and not doing enough research before getting into business.
Pretty much every person starting up wants to launch immediately and start making money. Who doesn’t, right?
But the major problem of this is that the key steps mentioned above are what is overlooked.
The first time business owner character is the person who is happy, energetic and ready to be a millionaire. They are the people who before planning their small business and writing a business plan focus on their business name, company lo
go and create business cards with the “CEO” as the position.

2nd Character: The “I know everything” Entrepreneur
The “I know everything” entrepreneur is the type of business owner who “knows everything”, or at least thinks so.
One of the most-likely to fail types of entrepreneurs are the ones who don’t want help, they don’t need anybody to tell them what to do, how to do it and why something
should, or shouldn’t be. They are also the ones that know their business will be successful. They don’t need to do any research, or write a business plan and believe as soon as they launch, they will make enough money to cover all expenses..etc
These are the types of entrepreneurs who startup one day, a week later fail and close shop because on the initial launch date they made zero sales.
The “I know everything” entrepreneur doesn’t want to invest in their own business but likes to get others to help invest (be it money or promotion or just free help). They are the ones who will forget you if they somehow end up being successful.
One thing to remember about this type of entrepreneurial character is that they don’t work well with people, they want something for nothing and are ready to give up near instantly if things don’t go their way.
Do you think you know everything?
3rd Character: The angry entrepreneur
Are you angry most of the time? Because if you are, this entrepreneurial character may be you!
Most “angry” entrepreneurs are ready to get down to business, they want to be left alone to make their dreams come true and that’s it.
Simple.
But when it comes to having a successful business and a successful startup, you will need to let people in. You may be required to work together with others towards building your business and towards achieve your goals. As much as you are fed up and tired of working your 9 to 5 job, starting your business needs to be a good time in your life, and you shouldn’t be angry.
This type of entrepreneurial character will take on the view of the “angry boss” and will try to mimic what you would see in a Hollywood movie of bosses firing employees, being insanely bossy and getting their way. But in fact these types of entrepreneurs are just nervous, and don’t know what they are doing themselves, thus the angry effect kicks in.
So which of the 3 entrepreneur characters are you?
Are you the first time business owner, and all happy and ready to entrepreneur life to kick in? Are you the know it all business owner or are you just a mad person in business?
Sure they all sound pretty bad, but the fact is that most people are a combination of all 3. That is how a true entrepreneur is made. The combination takes your happiness, and the belief that your business will be the best and nobody can tell you otherwise, but you will always have those doubters which will get you mad. But, life goes on and you have to do what you want with your business.
Just one thing to make sure is that you don’t make the same mistake as many entrepreneurs do when starting their small business. Be sure to research and plan A LOT. Be sure to create your own business plan (you don’t have to use it but be sure to have one). A business plan will guide you on the path to success. And lastly be sure that you know how much funding you need to startup, to launch and to run your business. Not having enough money is one of the top reasons why business fail. Another reason why a business plan is recommended – it tells you how much money you may need.
