If Im in need of funding, can I only apply for one government grant or are multiple grants allowed?
Each grant is different, and the government can enforce restrictions that only one source of funding is allowed, either in total or per tier of the government, such as municipal, provincial, or federal. Usually, however, grants are examined on their own merits so it may be possible to acquire multiple funds simultaneously, although this may come back to bite you by affecting future eligibility.
