Any entrepreneur, whether a beginner or with years of experience, will tell you that the hardest times for a business is usually in the first few years. This is when a business has to create a name for themselves with proper marketing, and also gather enough capital to create product (or distribute a service) without much profit in the first year or so. There are a multitude of steps one needs to take in order to ensure they are starting their business on the right foot.
So all businesses start with an idea: an idea of a service or of a great product that there is a demand for in our country or worldwide. It is acting on this idea to bring it to fruition that is the art of being an entrepreneur. So if you have an idea, your next step would be to think of a business name to go with it, research what type of business you want to form, register it all with the country, and then get going. While these are all crucial steps that are integral to starting a business, and ones you have to do, they are not the most critical step.
Once the business has been formed, now it is time to layout exactly the plan for what your business is going to become. A business plan describes the three W’s of your business: What your business is, who you are, and why does it need to exist; and also describes how it will all be done. The business plan also includes a detailed budget, a mission statement, and a set of both short term and long term goals to keep every decision focused on the destination of your business. While the business plan is also such an integral part of a business, and definitely needs to be done, it is not the most crucial step.
The most crucial step to starting a business is pretty simple: it is to ask for help when you need it. It may seem easy, and you might be thinking, “That can’t be it,” but you would be surprised how many new entrepreneurs try to do everything on their own. It all comes from the right place of passion, as the creator and owner of the business doesn’t want anyone to tamper with their idea or push it in the wrong direction. It is completely understandable. However, the sooner you realize you simply can’t do everything on your own, the faster your business will grow. In the beginning stages, reach out to colleagues in business that you admire and ask for advice. Do plenty of research online and email those who you are fond of with questions, you will be surprised how much the business community wants to help each other out.
By implementing this crucial step when starting a business, word will spread faster of your business, and it will actually decrease your overall stress as the owner.
