Your human resources, or HR, segment of your startup must be prepared properly. There are many rules that the Canada Business Network has set up in terms of how to hire people, how to keep them employed and so forth that must always be followed. The rules that are associated with getting a business to run right can certainly make a difference.
Hiring People Right
The Canadian Human Rights Act states that you must provide an equal opportunities for all candidates to get jobs where you are. You also hold a duty to accommodate all those who might need assistance in some way. This is especially the case for those who have physical or mental disabilities.
Keeping a Healthy Workplace
Your startup must run with a healthy workplace that provides employees with a standard for employment that is easy for all to follow. This includes a standard where a proper minimum wage can be paid while vacation and holiday pay may be offered. You must also set standards on what standard hours for work are involved and what overtime and emergency work standards may be included just as well.
Health and Safety Rules
You must also establish an environment within your startup where people will be treated with care. That is, the safety of your employees should be paramount. You must create a safe environment where people can report on any violations or concerns that they might have.
You should also watch for the processes required for maintaining a healthy workplace. The Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations ruling states that businesses must be responsible for running well-lit and clean workplaces with plenty of first aid and medical care solutions on hand for cases where someone might be hurt.
What About When An Employee Leaves?
You must also use a few important rules for when an employee leaves for any purpose. You must provide qualifying employees with proper severance pay in the event that one is terminated for any reason relating to business operations. You should also issue a proper exit interview with your employee to ensure that the process of removing an employee is kept under control. This may also be for cases where an employee might have particular grievances for whatever reason.
You must use these HR legislations when getting people to work for your startup. Failing to follow these rules could put you at grounds for discrimination.
